It never fails to amaze me just how many talented people we come across in the name of research for this magazine. Its encouraging to learn of so many creative people who have followed their dreams and managed to carve out a living in artistic disciplines that can be notoriously hard to make ends meet.

One such case in this issue is Scottish contemporary textile designer Kate Samphier (in magazine, issue 59). Based in her pretty Borders cottage, she is busy knitting beautiful pieces for stores in London, Paris and Norway. Her sense of style is everywhere, her quirky and tasteful home demonstrating that to create a beautiful interior you don’t always need to be a big spender.

At the other extreme, it’s fabulous to see an architect given the budget and freedom to work on a project with no limits. The spectacular boathouse on the banks of Loch Tay by architect Eric Strickland is, I’m sure, going to win many awards – so don’t forget where you saw it featured first! Looking a little like a “stealth bomber”, this remarkable building illustrates what impressive results can be achieved when a talented architect works with adventurous clients.

Talking of being adventurous, if you’re thinking of giving your bathroom a makeover, open your mind to all sorts of possibilities with our extensive bathroom feature (see magazine). With designers embellishing tiles, basins and even shower trays with beautiful designs, there's a world of possibilities out there - we hope you're inspired.

(Pictured above) These Arenas and Costarica floor cushions are simply gorgeous. I’m a huge fan of stripes so they are right up my street, but I also love they way the bold botanical prints make such a dramatic contrast.
